MAPP Network

An online forum for MAPP communities

Hey-- we are revising our purpose/vision statement. I wonder if any of you would be willing to simply copy and paste your vision statements to this discussion so that my team might expand our horizons and ideas as we re-develop ours. Thanks so much,

Sonja

Our current one is "proactive, resilient, innovative, creative community".

Our community initially wrote this one: "vision to action for a better life" - It got us going!

I saw this on your signature recently, I loved those words. BTW-- our MAPP process is housed entirely by the local health department and the position is locally funded (local property tax). Thanks.

We are beginning to plan for our visioning session. Would either of you mind sharing how you did your visioning or how you are planing to redo your visions?

Thanks!

Jenn

We had several approaches.

1. We did one visioning early on, after our MAPP gathering meeting; it was our first actual meeting of about 30 people who had agreed to go forward with MAPP, and one mistake I think we made was focusing on a group vision rather than a community vision.

2. We asked our key informants for their vision of the area in 5-10 years, getting community leaders to engage with us on that.

3.Then we repeated a visioning process after we got our themes from the assessment, as we gathered the community for strategic planning. It seemed to work to start that session/retreat with a review of the data, themes that emerged, and then ask them to create a vision for the community in 5-10 years. People present all got engaged, even if they had not participated in MAPP earlier. Strategic planning then, naturally followed well from that.

All the best, Jenn!

I have used the Technology of Participation consensus workshop process to develop visions for several MAPP initiatives.  It works beautifully.  Please feel free to contact me for a list of certified ToP facilitators in your geography.

Northern Kentucky's MAPP Vision is, “Thriving people living healthy lifestyles in a vibrant community.”

Check out the "Phase 2: Visioning" section of the MAPP Clearinghouse on the NACCHO website. There you can find samples and other resources that can help you through the visioning process.

From St. Johns County (Florida):

St. Johns County will be among the healthiest in the nation - a vibrant, well served community, enjoyed by all, and supported by a diverse network of strong partners.

Attached is a list of MAPP vision statements from other communities across the U.S. I gathered these for our MAPP Leadership Team (at their request) when we were in the Visioning phase, so they could see what others created.

This is a wonderful vision statement. But "innovation" both via "medical lense" and "non-medical" lense are important to execute this vision statement. Where and in which Stage six step MAPP process is "innovation" appreciation & community support encouraged and enabled ?
